Nélson Semedo se marchó del FC Barcelona rumbo a Wolverhampton, Inglaterra el pasado mes de setiembre por unos 40 millones de euros. Desde entonces, ha disputado 9 partidos de 11 posibles en Premier ganándose el puesto en el conjunto inglés y en la selección portuguesa, donde comparte posición con el lateral del Manchester City Joao Cancelo.
Su salida del Camp Nou fue un tanto abrupta, en un contexto institucional complicado, todavía con Bartomeu a los mandos, donde se buscaba sacar tajada de cualquier venta. Así fue como Jorge Mendes, el as del negocio de las ventas, que mantiene una gran relación con el conjunto azulgrana y dirige prácticamente todas las llegadas a este particular club inglés, puso encima de la mesa una gran oferta por el futbolista luso. 30 millones más 10 en variables, algo más de los 30 más 5 que pagó en su día el Barcelona al Benfica en 2017.
Así, en un abrir y cerrar de ojos, Nélson Semedo se marchaba a Inglaterra. 3 años en Can Barça con sus más y sus menos que no acabaron de darle el cartel de imprescindible y de pieza clave en la plantilla, mermado en ocasiones por su convivencia obligada en los onces con Sergi Roberto. Ahora, sin embargo, parece haber encontrado su sitio en un club en plena expansión en la Premier League como el Wolverhampton, que curiosamente cuenta con 9 futbolistas portugueses en plantilla, sin contar a Nuno Espírito Santo, el comandante del proyecto.
Y es que a Semedo la Premier le va como anillo al dedo. En un esquema habitual con 3 centrales (Kilman, Coady y Boly) y dos extremos rápidos y encaradores como Adama Traoré y Pedro Neto, el luso ocupa el carril derecho con mucha libertad en ataque y menos exigencias defensivas de las que tenía en Barcelona. De ahí su mayor rendimiento. Y aunque Nuno haya variado en los últimos encuentros el esquema del 3-4-3 a un 4-5-1, 4-2-3-1 o un 4-3-3, el portugués no se ha movido del once.
Aún no se ha estrenado como goleador o como asistente en los Wolves, pero sí vio puerta en el partido frente al Liverpool (4-0) del pasado domingo. Una pesadilla difícil de revivir, por el resultado. Se metió el cuarto gol en su propia portería en una jugada en la que trató, sin éxito, de evitar el remate a placer de Sadio Mané.
Errores puntuales aparte, estamos empezando a ver de vuelta al mejor Semedo. Aquel futbolista veloz y dañino al espacio, habilidoso en el uno contra uno y regateador que apareció a cuentagotas por el Camp Nou está luciéndose en el Wolverhampton. Y aunque sea sólo por compromiso conviene seguirle la pista, por desearle todos los bienes a un jugador al que le fue imposible cumplir con las esperanzas de convertirse en “el nuevo Alves”, una losa terrible para cualquier lateral derecho en el mundo.
